Beach Lighting & Sea Turtles
Friday, May 18, 2018
Volusia County Beach Safety Headquarters
515 S. Atlantic Avenue
Daytona Beach, FL 32118
Sea Turtle Compliant Lighting: Lighting along the beach side must be in compliance with county codes pertaining to the sea turtle nesting season. All lights must be shielded so that the glare does not attract sea turtle hatchings as they follow moon light to the ocean. Volusia County has an active enforcement program and very specific codes that apply. Speakers featured in the program will speak from experience on both sides of the spectrum, from installation of the newest technology to enforcement of existing and proposed lighting along the beach. This program is a must for any resident, developer or even tourist that does business with or visits the beach side communities.
Credit pending for AICP planners.
Location will be the Volusia County Lifeguard Headquarters with program sign-up at 11:30 a.m. and luncheon at noon. Speakers invited include Mr. Ed Best, local lighting contractor with 41 years experience; Mr. Rob Walsh, Volusia County Program Manager of Coastal Programs; and Ms.
Jennifer Winters, Sea Turtle Habitat Program Manager.
Lunch will be box lunches provided by Honey Baked Ham.
Cost will be from $25 for members to $35 for nonmembers.
